When you change just one word everything changes…
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
Paulo Coelho
I love reading “The Alchemist” on an annual basis. It’s quick and easy, and I enjoy it because every time I read it, I do so through a different lens. Heraclitus is credited with the famous saying, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man,” which is my experience with “The Alchemist.”
I checked my blog this morning to see if I had used this quote previously and was genuinely surprised to know that I haven’t posted or written about it in the past. I’ve had many other Paulo Coelho quotes and posts (I’ll link a few at the bottom), but this one is my favorite.
Why? We don’t always get what we want, and we shouldn’t. There are things we don’t understand and things we don’t truly need. So why does this quote resonate so much for me? I like to pair this quote with one of my favorite quotes from the late Tim Keller, “God will only give you what you would have asked for if you knew everything he knows.”
I have to let that one sink in a bit; the meaning is so powerful. We aren’t in charge, and He has a plan.
When I get sideways or lose track of what’s important, I often return to Paolo’s quote and change just one word, “And when He wants something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it…”
Have a fantastic day!
