A tale told by an idiot…

“A seed grows with no sound but a tree falls with huge noise. Destruction has noise, but creation is quiet. This is the power of silence… Grow silently.”

Confucius

Oh the power of silence. The beauty of a quiet walk in the woods, when the mind is creating and working. A morning on the beach where the sound of the surf stokes the fires of creativity. A quiet cup of coffee and time to think without the fury of inconsequential noise making a mockery of what truly needs to be done.

The idea of destruction from noise reminds me of the last line of this scene from William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Macbeth, Act V, Scene V

“Out, out, brief candle!

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage

And then is heard no more: it is a tale

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Signifying nothing.”
